Miss You!!
We went to the cafeteria. People were standing in the line waiting for their turn. The room was very noisy and filled with discussions. People discussing on diverse topis like work structure, work load, vendor management, movies for the weekend and plans for the weekend. We were standing in the line waiting for our turn.
He was standing behind me with a token in his hand. Just like a child's play i tried grabbing the coupon from his hand. But today he didn’t fight back unlike everyother day. He gave the token very easily. It was an easy achievement. I was not happy winning this easy fight. I gave it back to him and meanwhile our turn came.
We picked up the food and sat at one corner where we had a better view of the screen. I started with the icecream asusual. He said "I will have to travel to singapore for a short term assignment for six months". I looked at him with my mouth slightly opened and my eyebrows raised with a doubt. The icecream melted even before I could put it in my mouth. Looking at my expression he repeated. "I will have to travel to singapore for 6 months and would be starting tomorrow evening".
I couldn’t continue eating and tears already started flowing down my eyes. Even before the tear could roll down to my cheeks and then to chin they got evaporated. I was so shocked and dejected. He was a friend when I joined this company. Not even a minute goes away without thinking about him. If I had been a friend I would be the most happiest person after listening to this news. But I am no longer a friend. He is more than a friend to me. He is everything. I can afford to lose his company for 6 months. I dropped the plate and went back to my desk.
Then I thought there is no point in fighting. Just 1 day left. Infact he is helpless. He has to plan his career. This is the right time. But I couldn’t accept the fact that we are not going to meet for so long. I didn’t want him to go. I called him for a juice. Its just been 10 minutes since we came back from cafeteria. We once again went and sat at the same place where I heard this news in the morning with a juice in front of us. I tried controlling my tears. Both of us were bending our heads and looking at the juice. I slowly raised my head and told "Please don’t go".
His eyes were filled with tears. But no answer. I tried to threaten him. I told him with tears in my eyes and a shiver in my voice "If you go I wont talk to you. I will never talk to you. I am not going to share anything with you". He replied still with tears in his eyes "Flight is preponed to today evening". I cried with my head in his hands "Please don’t leave me". All my efforts went vain. He has decided to go.
Then we talked for some time and then he asked "Shall we start to the airport". I very sternly said "I wont come". I cant see you going". He requested me but I was more stubborn than him. Then we got a call from cab. The cab is waiting outside. He held the luggage with both his hands and started walking towards the cab. He got into the cab. I was standing near the gate not even willing to bade him goodbye. The cab started. I immediately took the mobile from my pocket and called him. I told "I will also join you till airport".
I deeply didn’t want it to happen. I wish it was a dream. I got into the cab and placed my head on his shoulder crying. I desparately wanted it to be a dream. I pinched myself but I felt the pain. Not the pain of pinch but the pain of he leaving me. I slept off on his shoulder. And suddenly I could hear some heavy noise near my ears. I got up with a heavy heart thinking we reached the airport. But it was the sound of the bell of the paper boy. He came to deliver the paper. I got up and checked around. I was in my room deeply in sleep and yess that was a dream.
